Director of Business Development – Commercial Construction

Established commercial construction organization is seeking a Director of Business Development to help expand its presence across key markets in Central Pennsylvania. This is an opportunity for a construction professional who understands the market, knows how projects come together, and can build relationships that turn into new business. The ideal candidate will come from a commercial general contractor and bring experience in areas such as business development, project leadership, preconstruction, estimating, or operations. Healthcare, senior living, higher education, and other institutional construction experience is particularly valuable.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain relationships with owners, developers, architects, engineers, and other key decision-makers throughout Central Pennsylvania.
Identify prospective clients, upcoming projects, and emerging opportunities within targeted markets.
Develop and execute strategies to expand the company’s presence in key commercial and institutional markets.
Leverage existing industry relationships to create introductions and develop new opportunities.
Work closely with estimating, preconstruction, project management, and operations teams to evaluate opportunities and determine the best approach.
Participate in client meetings, project pursuits, presentations, interviews, and networking events.
Help develop responses to RFQs, RFPs, and other pursuit materials.
Maintain an understanding of construction activity, market trends, competitors, and upcoming development throughout the region.
Develop relationships with past clients and identify opportunities to expand those relationships.
Represent the organization professionally at industry events, association meetings, and other community activities.
Maintain accurate information regarding prospects, opportunities, relationships, and project activity.
Partner with leadership to develop and execute business development strategies and long-term growth plans.

Required Experience

Significant experience within the commercial general contracting industry.
Proven understanding of the Central Pennsylvania construction market.
Experience in business development, project management, preconstruction, estimating, operations, or a combination of these areas.
Existing relationships within the commercial construction market are highly valued.
Experience pursuing work in healthcare, senior living, higher education, or other institutional markets is strongly preferred.
Ability to understand construction projects, project delivery methods, estimating considerations, schedules, and the factors that influence an owner’s decision.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and generate new opportunities rather than simply manage existing accounts.
Self-directed and entrepreneurial approach with the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with internal leadership and project teams.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple opportunities and relationships simultaneously.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout the region.
