Active Directory / Microsoft 365 Engineer

We are working with a well-established organization on a long-term opportunity for an experienced Active Directory / Microsoft 365 Engineer. This role will support a large enterprise environment across both on-premises and cloud technologies, with a strong focus on Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Active Directory, Azure, Intune, security, and automation. The position would be a great fit for someone who enjoys solving complex technical issues, improving enterprise environments, and taking ownership of systems that support a large user population.

Responsibilities

Administer and support enterprise Active Directory environments, including users, groups, organizational units, access, permissions, and related services.
Manage and support Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online environments.
Troubleshoot Exchange Online mail flow, hybrid connectivity, messaging issues, and related Microsoft 365 services.
Provision and maintain user mailboxes, distribution groups, security groups, and other messaging resources.
Monitor system alerts, application logs, service requests, and technical queues to identify and resolve issues.
Support Microsoft Azure and cloud-based services, including configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and ongoing improvements.
Administer Microsoft Intune and assist with enterprise endpoint and mobile device management.
Manage DNS requests and coordinate DNS, IP address, and related infrastructure changes with network and security teams.
Develop PowerShell scripts and automation to improve system administration, consistency, and efficiency.
Perform message tracing, log analysis, and troubleshooting within the Microsoft messaging environment.
Support Microsoft security tools, including investigating suspicious activity, anomalous logins, compromised accounts, and other security-related events.
Configure, monitor, and manage Microsoft Defender capabilities, including reviewing and releasing quarantined or flagged items when appropriate.
Support Exchange Online Protection and other email security technologies.
Manage retention requirements, litigation holds, and eDiscovery searches within Microsoft 365.
Support data recovery and restoration efforts using enterprise backup and recovery tools.
Participate in server patching and maintenance activities and help ensure systems remain current and secure.
Develop, document, and maintain operational procedures, technical standards, and disaster recovery processes.
Research emerging Microsoft and cloud technologies and evaluate their potential value within the enterprise environment.
Participate in the planning, testing, implementation, and ongoing support of new technologies and system enhancements.
Work closely with infrastructure, network, security, application, and management teams to resolve issues and implement technical solutions.
Provide technical input into projects and initiatives involving enterprise messaging, identity, cloud services, and collaboration technologies.
Help identify opportunities to improve system reliability, security, automation, and overall user experience.

Required Experience

5+ years of progressive experience supporting Microsoft enterprise environments, with significant experience in Active Directory and Microsoft 365.
Strong hands-on experience with Active Directory administration and troubleshooting.
Strong experience with Exchange Online and Microsoft 365 administration.
Experience supporting hybrid Exchange environments and troubleshooting mail flow.
Experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-based Microsoft services.
Experience with Microsoft Intune or comparable enterprise device-management technologies.
Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
Experience with DNS administration and troubleshooting.
Knowledge of Microsoft security technologies, including Microsoft Defender and Exchange Online Protection.
Experience investigating suspicious account activity, anomalous logins, or compromised user accounts.
Experience with Microsoft 365 retention, litigation holds, and eDiscovery.
Experience with enterprise backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery technologies.
Ability to analyze logs and troubleshoot complex technical issues across multiple systems.
Strong understanding of enterprise identity, authentication, access control, and security practices.
Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with infrastructure, security, networking, and application teams.
Strong documentation and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a long-term enterprise environment.
Experience developing technical procedures and operational documentation is preferred.
Experience evaluating and implementing new cloud or enterprise technologies is a plus.
