General Manager – Residential Services

A well-established residential home-services organization is seeking a General Manager to lead a growing residential business with approximately $17 million in annual revenue and 60–70 employees. This is a true general management opportunity with responsibility for P&L performance, operations, customer experience, team leadership, employee engagement, and culture. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or broader residential home-services industry, ideally having worked their way up through the trades and into progressively broader leadership roles. This person will lead an established management team, build credibility with field employees, and provide the stability, accountability, and direction needed to support continued growth.

Responsibilities

Business & Financial Leadership
Take overall responsibility for the financial and operational performance of the residential business.
Own P&L performance, including revenue, expenses, gross profit, and operating profitability.
Review financial results and key performance indicators to identify trends, opportunities, and areas requiring corrective action.
Participate in annual budgeting, forecasting, and business planning.
Develop and execute strategies that support sustainable revenue growth while maintaining profitability and operational consistency.
Establish clear goals and accountability across the organization.

Operations Leadership
Provide overall leadership for residential HVAC, plumbing, and electrical operations.
Ensure day-to-day operations are efficient, organized, and aligned with company standards.
Oversee service and installation operations, staffing, scheduling, productivity, and resource allocation.
Identify operational challenges and implement practical solutions.
Establish and monitor KPIs that drive accountability, efficiency, quality, and profitability.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
Maintain strong communication between field operations and supporting departments.

Leadership & Team Development
Lead, coach, and develop the existing management team.
Build strong relationships with managers, technicians, installers, and other employees throughout the organization.
Establish a culture of accountability while maintaining a collaborative and respectful work environment.
Develop managers and emerging leaders through coaching, feedback, and clear performance expectations.
Support recruiting, retention, succession planning, and employee development.
Earn the trust and respect of an established team through consistency, transparency, and strong leadership.
Create an environment where employees understand expectations and have the tools and support needed to succeed.

Customer Experience
Maintain a strong focus on delivering a high-quality customer experience.
Monitor customer satisfaction and identify opportunities to improve service delivery.
Address escalated customer issues and ensure appropriate resolution.
Partner with Customer Care, Dispatch, Sales, and field teams to improve communication and the overall customer journey.
Ensure operational decisions support both customer satisfaction and long-term business performance.

Culture & Organizational Leadership
Reinforce the company’s mission, values, and standards throughout the residential organization.
Provide stability and consistency during a period of leadership transition.
Build strong working relationships across the organization and foster a unified team environment.
Lead by example and establish a leadership presence that is visible and accessible to employees.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Finance, HR, Sales, Marketing, Safety, Customer Care, Dispatch, and other shared-service functions.
Ensure residential operations have the support and resources needed to meet business objectives.
Communicate operational needs, opportunities, and challenges to senior leadership.
Participate in strategic planning and company-wide initiatives.
Identify opportunities to improve coordination and efficiency across departments.

Required Experience

5+ years of progressive leadership experience within residential home services, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction, field services, or a closely related industry.
Demonstrated experience leading a meaningful-sized service or field operation.
Proven experience with P&L responsibility and financial management.
Strong understanding of business performance metrics, budgeting, forecasting, and operational KPIs.
Demonstrated success leading and developing managers and field-based employees.
Strong operational and business acumen with the ability to connect day-to-day decisions to overall financial performance.
Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to establish accountability while maintaining strong employee relationships.
Strong customer-service orientation.
Ability to work effectively with an established team and leadership structure.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel periodically between locations.

Preferred Experience

Background in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or residential home services. Experience progressing from a field/trade role into operations or general management leadership. Experience managing a multi-department residential service business. Experience overseeing multiple locations or markets. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Operations, or a related field.
