Java & Application Development
Develop, maintain, debug, and enhance Java-based enterprise applications and services.
Develop and support Spring Boot, Spring Web, and Spring Batch applications.
Build and maintain REST APIs and service-layer components.
Work with JDBC/JPA and database-connected applications.
Support batch processes, scheduled workflows, and other automated application jobs.
Implement targeted enhancements and controlled refactoring within existing applications while preserving established business functionality.
Database Development
Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot SQL and database business logic.
Create and maintain stored procedures, views, triggers, joins, scripts, and other database objects.
Support relational database design and development.
Investigate data discrepancies and perform data reconciliation and validation.
Tune queries and improve database performance.
Maintain data integrity and troubleshoot issues across the application and database layers.
Experience with SAP ASE/Sybase is preferred; experience with SQL Server, Oracle, or another comparable relational database platform may be transferable.
Integration & Production Support
Support REST APIs, enterprise messaging, file transfers, scheduled processing, and other system integrations.
Work with IBM MQ or comparable messaging technologies.
Troubleshoot failed integrations, application errors, data issues, and production incidents.
Analyze application logs and trace issues across connected systems and services.
Understand service dependencies, retries, timeouts, failover, idempotency, and recovery.
Participate in a rotating production/on-call support schedule.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
Improve application performance, stability, availability, logging, maintainability, and recovery.
Diagnose defects and trace existing business logic through complex legacy applications.
Identify opportunities to improve established processes and technical solutions without unnecessarily disrupting production environments.
Support application upgrades, system improvements, and modernization initiatives.
Testing & Collaboration
Test, debug, review, and validate application and database changes before release.
Participate in code reviews and established development and release processes.
Collaborate with business analysts, developers, database administrators, QA/testing teams, and IT operations.
Clearly communicate technical findings, production issues, and recommended solutions.
Take ownership of assigned work from investigation through testing and implementation.
Required
Approximately 3–5 years of professional experience developing and supporting Java applications and relational databases.
Strong hands-on experience with Java and SQL.
Experience developing and maintaining relational database components, including stored procedures, views, triggers, joins, and database business logic.
Experience with Spring Boot, REST APIs, and batch processing.
Experience with JDBC/JPA or comparable database connectivity technologies.
Experience supporting application integrations and distributed systems.
Experience troubleshooting production application, database, and integration issues.
Experience with scheduled jobs, file transfers, APIs, or other enterprise integration workflows.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently.
Working knowledge of Maven, unit testing, mocking frameworks, and code review practices.
Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Technical Experience
Java 17 or newer, preferably Java 21.
Spring Boot 3.x, Spring Web, and Spring Batch.
SAP ASE/Sybase or comparable experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or another procedural relational database platform.
IBM MQ or another enterprise messaging platform.
JDBC, JPA, connection pooling, and multiple database configurations.
REST/API integration and message-based processing.
FTP/SFTP and file-based integrations.
Docker/containerization; Kubernetes or OpenShift exposure is a plus.
Git, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or comparable CI/CD tools.
Application monitoring and logging tools such as Splunk, ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar platforms.
Application security concepts including OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, mutual TLS, certificates, and secrets management.
Integration testing and mocking tools such as Testcontainers, WireMock, or comparable technologies.
Linux/Unix shell scripting or PowerShell.
Experience with Agile/Scrum development environments, pull requests, peer reviews, issue tracking, and technical documentation.
Front-end exposure to technologies such as React, Angular, Vue, TypeScript, HTML, or CSS is a plus for end-to-end troubleshooting.
