Diesel Technician II

Established organization is seeking an experienced Diesel Technician II to join its in-house fleet maintenance team. This is a hands-on opportunity for a skilled technician who can independently diagnose and repair diesel vehicles, trailers, refrigeration equipment, and related systems while keeping a busy fleet operating safely and reliably.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair diesel engines, fuel systems, electrical components, drivetrain systems, and other vehicle-related issues.
Inspect trailers and identify mechanical, structural, electrical, braking, and suspension problems.
Repair or replace components including axles, bearings, hubs, brakes, lighting, and related trailer equipment.
Install and repair equipment such as liftgates, ramps, and other aftermarket components.
Perform routine and preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles and trailers.
Service air brake systems, perform brake adjustments, replace tires, lubricate components, and complete other scheduled maintenance.
Troubleshoot vehicle and trailer electrical systems using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on refrigeration units and HVAC equipment used in refrigerated vehicles.
Test completed repairs to verify proper operation, safety, and reliability.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts, and maintenance performed.
Identify potential issues before they become larger or more costly repairs.
Follow applicable DOT, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, and the work area in a safe and organized condition.
Assist with special projects and other fleet maintenance needs as required.

Required Experience

High school diploma or GED required.
2–5 years of experience working with diesel vehicles, trucks, trailers, or comparable heavy equipment, or completion of a related diesel/automotive technical program.
Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues.
Experience working with diesel engines, braking systems, drivetrain components, suspension, and trailer systems.
Comfortable using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical and electrical problems.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently while knowing when to seek assistance on more complex issues.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to maintain accurate repair and maintenance records.
Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team

Preferred Experience

Experience working with refrigerated trucks, trailers, or transport refrigeration systems. Experience with HVAC systems. EPA Section 608 certification or other applicable refrigerant-handling certification. Experience with trailer modifications or aftermarket equipment such as liftgates and ramps. Experience with automotive or commercial paint and body work, including spray-gun application, primer, basecoat, and clearcoat. Additional diesel, electrical, HVAC, or fleet maintenance certifications.
