Process Engineer

The Process Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for complex problem-solving activities in the areas of manufacturing and new product implementation. These specific problem-solving activities can include safety improvements and initiative support, manufacturing cost reduction, manufacturing efficiency increases, operational excellence and continuous improvement, increase equipment reliability, preventative and predictive maintenance, development of critical spare parts lists, and support of new product introduction initiatives at the site manufacturing level.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Drive process efficiency and yield improvement projects based on business priority and fluctuating customer demand through thorough understanding specific drying, crushing, screening, and packaging circuits. This will include regular collaboration with both the commercial and operations teams to deliver high quality products to the customer base.
Work closely with operations team to drive proactive implementation of safety initiatives and engineering controls to ensure facilities are in compliance with all safety procedures and regulations. This will include the maintenance of all systems in field installation.
Lead and manage projects by working directly with manufacturing site leadership, outside contractors, and equipment OEM’s to manage equipment installation and modification projects in line with timing and cost expectations of the business.
Support all new product introductions at sites to ensure the processes are producing finished product at optimal quality levels with proper efficiencies and yield distribution. This can include completion of process and product DOE’s to improve profitability at the site level.
Create and implement a data driven culture of continuous improvement and Lean Sigma methodology.
Utilize computer assisted engineering and design software such as Solidworks and AutoCAD and analogous equipment to perform engineering conceptualization, tasks, and improvements.
Supervise building trade craft persons and contractors during erection and modification of equipment.
Prepare component specifications for purchasing team while evaluating all bids, estimates and plans for plant components and erection contracts.
Develop preventative and predictive maintenance program to support reduction in unplanned downtime at sites. This will include creating and maintaining critical spare parts list at each plant and creates program to stock parts to prevent unplanned downtime.

Must be able to:
Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Effectively manage projects critical to the organization’s manufacturing process to drive cost reduction and efficiency improvement while being able to meet budgetary and timing expectations.
Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Travel may be expected up to 50% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
Exposure to a variety of working environments, including exposure to moderate to loud noise, will occur. Work atmosphere can include working outdoors in humid, wet, and/or cold conditions; working near moving mechanical parts; in high precarious places, and in fumes with airborne particles, extreme heat and vibration(s).

Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in Engineering and related fields
Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in engineering department of manufacturing or production services company, including responsibility for design, safety, quality, reliability, performance, and economics of fixed facilities planning and development.
Working knowledge of Auto-CAD and/or Solidworks software.
Sound knowledge and acumen of engineering theory and design criteria
Strong analytical and technical skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated project management abilities and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Experience

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or similar field Minimum of 7 – 10 years progressive experience in engineering department of manufacturing or production services company, including responsibility for design, safety, quality, reliability, performance, and economics of fixed facilities planning and development. Experience in mineral and/or aggregate products setting Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Equivalent with experience in Design for Six Sigma.
