Senior Java Developer (Health Data / EDI Systems)

We are seeking a Senior Java Developer to support and enhance mission-critical data interfaces and reporting systems within a healthcare-focused environment. This role is centered on building and maintaining automated data processes, working with standardized healthcare transaction formats, and supporting integration and reporting needs tied to regulatory and operational requirements. The ideal candidate will bring strong Java development experience along with hands-on exposure to EDI transactions and healthcare data processing. This is a fully onsite role requiring close collaboration with a growing technical team.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
• Develop, maintain, and enhance Java-based applications and data interfaces
• Support EDI transaction processing for healthcare data (claims, eligibility, enrollment, etc.)
• Design and maintain APIs and integration workflows
• Work with standardized healthcare file formats (including 837, 835, 834, 277)
• Support CMS-related reporting and encounter data submissions
• Monitor, reconcile, and troubleshoot data submission and response issues
• Develop and support custom reporting for internal and external stakeholders
• Diagnose and resolve production issues in a timely manner
• Create and maintain technical documentation for systems and interfaces
• Provide occasional off-hours support as needed

Required Experience

Required Skills
• 5–8 years of Java development experience
• Strong hands-on experience with EDI transactions (837, 835, 834, 277)
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs
• Strong SQL experience (DB2, MySQL, or similar relational databases)
• Experience working with healthcare or health plan data environments
• Understanding of HIPAA compliance and healthcare data standards
• Experience with XML, SFTP, and JDBC
• Strong debugging and production support experience
• Ability to work onsite 5 days per week

Preferred Experience

Preferred Skills • Experience with CMS or government healthcare reporting requirements • Exposure to EDI translation tools (e.g., iWay or similar) • Experience working in managed care or insurance environments • Familiarity with AS/400 environments • Basic COBOL exposure (nice to have, not required) • Experience with Excel-based reporting and large dataset manipulation • Exposure to enterprise integration or legacy system modernization
