Director of Procurement & Strategic Sourcing

A well-established organization with a diverse, multi-location operation is seeking a Director of Procurement & Strategic Sourcing to lead enterprise-wide sourcing, supplier strategy, procurement operations, and cost optimization initiatives. This senior leadership role will oversee strategic sourcing across a broad range of categories, including goods, services, operating supplies, and other major areas of organizational spend. The Director will play a key role in supplier negotiations, risk management, contract strategy, procurement analytics, and process improvement while leading a significant transformation of the organization’s procurement technology and processes. The ideal candidate will bring strong strategic sourcing expertise, exceptional negotiation skills, and the ability to influence senior leaders and drive change across a complex organization.

Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
Develop and lead comprehensive category strategies across a diverse portfolio of direct and indirect spend.
Develop sourcing strategies that balance cost optimization, quality, innovation, supplier performance, risk, and long-term value.
Lead the end-to-end sourcing process, including RFP development, supplier evaluation, negotiations, contract execution, and ongoing supplier management.
Conduct market and supplier research to identify trends, opportunities, risks, and potential sources of value.
Develop long-term category plans and sourcing roadmaps based on market conditions and organizational priorities.
Establish and maintain strong strategic supplier relationships to improve performance, quality, supply continuity, and overall value.
Monitor supplier performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Procurement Technology & Process Transformation
Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of Source-to-Pay (S2P) workflows and procurement processes.
Serve as the primary functional procurement leader for a major procurement technology implementation and ongoing optimization.
Partner with IT and Finance to establish governance structures, approval hierarchies, user permissions, and system processes.
Translate business requirements into functional system specifications while maximizing standard system capabilities and minimizing unnecessary customization.
Develop a roadmap for continuous improvement of procurement technology and processes.
Leverage procurement technology and real-time analytics to improve spend visibility, identify savings opportunities, and mitigate supplier risk.
Drive standardization, efficiency, compliance, and scalability across procurement processes.

Supplier, Contract & Risk Management
Lead contract negotiations and supplier agreements to achieve favorable commercial terms while managing organizational and financial risk.
Partner with Legal to develop and maintain supplier contracts, purchasing terms, and conditions.
Ensure procurement activities comply with organizational policies, contractual requirements, and appropriate governance standards.
Identify and proactively manage supply chain and supplier risks.
Develop strategies to strengthen supply continuity and organizational resilience.

Analytics & Financial Management
Partner with Finance to establish and maintain procurement reporting, analytics, and performance metrics.
Translate complex procurement and spend data into clear, actionable insights for leadership.
Develop and monitor key performance indicators related to cost savings, supplier performance, risk, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Utilize financial and market analysis, including should-cost modeling, to support sourcing and negotiation decisions.
Identify opportunities to improve total cost of ownership across procurement categories.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
Serve as a strategic procurement advisor to senior and executive leadership.
Partner with leaders across Operations, Finance, IT, Marketing, Maintenance, Food & Beverage, and other functional areas to align procurement strategies with business objectives.
Support new product, service, and operational initiatives through strategic sourcing and supplier engagement.
Lead cross-functional procurement initiatives and organizational change efforts.
Coach, develop, and provide leadership to procurement team members.
Establish clear expectations, performance measures, and development opportunities for the team.
Manage multiple complex initiatives and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Drive a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, accountability, and strategic thinking.

Required Experience

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Procurement, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
10+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing and/or procurement within a complex organization.
5+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
Experience managing multiple categories of direct and indirect spend.
Proven experience developing and executing category strategies and sourcing initiatives.
Significant experience with supplier negotiations, RFPs, contracts, and supplier relationship management.
Experience leading complex, cross-functional projects and organizational process improvements.
Experience with procurement technology, Source-to-Pay platforms, ERP systems, or related enterprise technology implementations.
Experience in hospitality, leisure, retail, food service, entertainment, or another complex consumer-facing environment is highly valued.
Demonstrated experience using data and analytics to drive sourcing and procurement decisions.

Knowledge & Skills
Exceptional contract negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
Strong understanding of strategic sourcing, category management, commodity markets, and supplier risk.
Advanced analytical and critical-thinking abilities, including interpreting spend data and developing financial models.
Strong understanding of procurement governance, compliance, and contracting processes.
Experience developing and managing procurement KPIs and performance reporting.
Strong understanding of Source-to-Pay processes and procurement technology.
Ability to influence and communicate effectively with senior and executive-level stakeholders.
