I am a goal setter. I make goals for everything – travel, business, personal, family. You name it – I have already set a goal or am in the process of making one. A goal could be the same as a bucket list, but personally, I think of them as two completely different things. Setting goals, for me, keeps me motivated and gives me focus. I must have been related to Pavlov in a previous life – I need to feel rewarded when I reach a goal!
On January 2 of this year I wrote on our conference room chalkboard that my goal was to make the “Top 50 Fastest Growing Companies” list for 2014 . On September 22nd my team celebrated reaching that goal at an awards breakfast honoring SGC and 49 other amazing businesses in Central Pennsylvania. Each company’s story was remarkable. We learned about industry leaders in Construction, Transportation, Real Estate, Banking, Information Technology, the Hotel Industry, even Chicken Farmers! Did you know Bell & Evans, who sells their antibiotic-free chicken to National leaders such as Wegman’s , Whole Foods, and Chipotle has over 1,200 employees and is located right here in Central PA? We faced stiff competition!
Growing a business is a lot like setting a goal. It doesn’t happen overnight and sometimes it takes LOTS of guts, teamwork and determination. My head was spinning at that breakfast – listening to the success stories and trying to absorb as much as I could from these high achievers. While being surrounded by these leaders it made me confidently renew my goal of future growth and success.
